June 24, 2010

I'm writing to share the latest news.

First, have you registered? If you have, thanks! If not - why not? Bouchercon 2010 is shaping up to be a blast, and now is definitely the time to get your registration completed.

The hotel
The Hyatt Regency is fabulous, and gorgeous, and running out of rooms. Book now to get a great room in our four-diamond hotel.

The program, and panels
If you're interested in participating on a panel, you should register NOW. Right this very minute.

When we start putting together the panels, after the 4th of July, we're going to be working primarily with the registration list as of June 30. Will there be exceptions? Sure. This is Bouchercon, not D-Day. (Although the two share some rather frightening similarities ;-) But you can do yourself, and us, a huge favor by getting your registration in to us.

We'll do our very best to find a spot for everyone who wants to participate, however there will most likely be more volunteers than there are panel slots, so registering now will give you a better chance for participation.

Fun at Bouchercon
Our program is action packed, and will have something for everyone:
  • Opening Ceremonies, Thursday night: Featuring the Barry Awards, the Macavity Awards, and a festive cocktail reception.
  • The Craft Room: It was so popular in Indianapolis, we're doing again this year (thanks to Camille Minichino, who's organizing it).
  • Are You Noir? Dominic Stansberry and Peter Maravelis have just the event for you. And we're not telling you what it is. Yet. But it's cool.
  • Lee Child's annual Reacher Creature party is open this year to every Bouchercon attendee "in appreciation for readers of Mystery, the first genre, upon which literature is only a barnacle".
  • US Guest of Honor Laurie R. King came up with an idea we think is fabulous - cable car tours of San Francisco! Her Kate Martinelli series is set here, so she knows every place worth seeing.
  • Dashiell Hammett: The great Don Herron will be offering a very few Hammet walking tours. A select group of lucky people may actually get to visit the apartment where The Maltese Falcon was written.
  • Disco night: A live band! A DJ! A glitter ball! Bring your dancing shoes for Saturday night!
  • The Anthony Awards Brunch, on Sunday morning. Yes, there will be bacon.

And much, much more...
