Big News! A Hammett Walking Tour!
Don Herron, one of the world's most renowned Hammett scholars,
is offering Bouchercon attendees an amazing gift - a two-hour Dashiell Hammett walking tour.
Travel with Don over the fog-shrouded hills stalked by Sam Spade, the Continental Op, and other
hardboiled characters created by San Francisco's most renowned mystery and noir writer. During
this walk you'll see the buildings where Hammett wrote his most famous stories and you'll visit
the majority of locales from his classic novel, The Maltese Falcon.
The tours will be limited to a maximum of 30 people each time. There
will be one on Thursday afternoon (he's ok w 1 or 2 pm) and one on Friday starting at noon.
IMPORTANT: We will meet in front of 870 Market, between 4th and 5th Streets.
It's a 9 block walk up Market Street, or two BART stops (to the Powell Street station).
The lovely people in the Hospitality Suite can help you figure out the best way to get there.
ALSO IMPORTANT: Tours are limited to 30 people. Email hammett@bcon2010.com to reserve a spot!
More Big News!
Are you a fan of Lord Peter Wimsey? I certainly am, so I'm really happy to tell you that Minotaur Books' The Criminal Element has graciously donated two copies of the brand new Wimsey adventure, The Attenbury Emeralds, to be part of our raffle. Author Jill Paton Walsh has done a fabulous job of keeping alive Dorothy L. Sayers' iconic character, so these will be a real treat for whoever wins them.
And, there's another chance to win a copy of the book - there's a sweepstakes at Macmillan's crime fiction e-newsletter, The Criminal Element. Just subscribe and you have a chance to win one of ten signed copies. Go to http://us.macmillan.com/static/criminalelementform.htm to check it out.
And finally...
Bouchercon is only hours away! I can't wait to see you all!
Cheers,
Rae
